About Ming's Restaurant

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Schenectady; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in New York are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 amโ€“9:30 pm. It is closed on Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Ming's Restaurant at (518) 393-6888; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.

The half chicken with rice is delicious & the portions/price is more than fair.

I got takeout. Overall everything was good. The items that had sweeter sauces like the pork ribs and crab Rangoon were almost sickly sweet. For example the crab Rangoon tasted like it had cheesecake filling. On top of being overly sweet, the pork ribs were overcooked. The sauce on the orange chicken was so thin it wasn't sticking to the meat. But the meat was nice and crispy. Dumplings and egg rolls were good as well as the beef with mushroom.

Do not buy boneless spare ribs . Absolutely inedible. As a customer that lives in the area and frequent this restaurant I called to rectify the issue and just exchange for something else since I work night shift and that was my dinner. The spare ribs were rock hard . Like I could throw it at someone and they would have a concussion. Last minute after telling me it's not their fault they decided to let me come in tomorrow for something else.

Overall, this was a disappointing experience and not what I expected based on the positive reviews. I would rate the meal around a 3 out of 10. The pork fried rice was extremely bland and had no real flavor, it mostly just tasted oily. The white rice was standard and fine, nothing notable. The sweet and sour chicken pieces were actually good and had a nice chicken flavor, which was one of the few positives. Unfortunately, the boneless barbecue ribs also lacked flavor and tasted old and dry.(barely any sauce) The chicken and broccoli combo was especially disappointing. The container was almost entirely filled with the same flavorless pork fried rice, with only about seven pieces of broccoli and a few pieces of chicken. The chicken looked undercooked, slimy, and very pale, with little to no color. There was also barely any brown sauce in the container, which made the dish even more bland. The General Tsoโ€™s chicken combo was okay, but once again it was overwhelmed by the same tasteless rice. I tried this place because of the good reviews, but it did not live up to the hype at all. We tossed most of it in the garbage. What a waste of $70. I wonโ€™t be returning.

This is the first time I had food from Ming's, but so far very impressed. It was all well cooked, tasty, well seasoned and none of the fried stuff was greasy. I ordered Kung Pao shrimp and it was spicy! So often the menu indicates spicy, but it usually is bland - not this.
